The Plots

Trug of vegetables

Allotment ‘plots’ are rented as half a standard allotment, i.e. approximately 5 rods in area. Currently (Dec 2019), the rent for each ‘plot’ is £45.00 with rents renewable each January. An annual membership fee to the Association of £7.50 is also due. There is a one off Administration fee of £20 for new members and a refundable fee of £25.00 for your key.

The soil on the site is a rich loam with a subsoil of clay. As most plots have been worked on and off for more than 80 years the growing conditions are very good once the surface vegetation is cleared. The method of cultivation is left entirely to the plot holder with chemicals available in the shop for those members who adopt a non-organic approach.

Currently there is a great deal of interest nationally in organic food and growing your own on an allotment is a good way to obtain reasonably priced fruit and vegetables without the addition of pesticides and herbicides.

Allotment gardening is getting more popular; as of February 2020, all plots are taken and there is a waiting list. Please go to the contact page and register with our Membership Secretary for the waiting list.
